Hand hooked wool rugs are made with 100% wool fabric strips on a woven linen backing; held in place by a rug hooking frame. Wools used are "as is" plaids, patterns, solids, over-dyed or hand-dyed. The wool can be cut into strips by a machine, hand cut or hand torn for a rustic look. Then the strips are pulled with a hook one loop at a time through the backing.

Hooked Rug "Santa Fe Dream"

Hand hooked 100% wool rug sized 28" x 46". Original design and hooked by me.

Backing is 100% primitive linen and the 100% wool strips range in size - they were all hand torn for this specific look.

The background has a variety of up-cycled wool, all over-dyed by hand for consistency. I drew this pattern while in Santa Fe, NM hence the name.

The rug is very "cushiony" and soft; I hooked the extra wide strips very high. It used a lot of wool. The petals will crush down with use but it will be a super durable rug.

My wool blankets are made from up-cycled 100% wool sweaters and/or blankets and backed with double thick blizzard fleece or an additional layer of wool. All sweaters have been washed (a process called felting) in warm or hot soapy water. Wools used include Lambs wool, Cashmere, Angora, Merino, Alpaca and Shetland. There is an occasional wool blend (if I couldn't resist the pattern) but an additional layer of wool is then used. See individual item descriptions for specific fabrics and sizes.
